Well, since we weren’t around when the trade happened I’d like to give a nice goodbye to Z and Dan.

When I first heard of the trade to NY, I was kinda pissed. Z and Dan are great players. Dan is a hard worker. He grew up in Cleveland, I’ve met him several times. He’s a class act. Going to NYC, though, is really good for him.
Z. Well I know we all know his potential. And, he could blossom with the Rangers, and become an offensive threat. But, I don’t see it happening. Idk. It really depends on who hes put on a line with. 70 Points I say he gets. I don’t think he was very happy here. Him and Hitch didn’t get along very well.
All in all. I wish both Dan and Z the best of luck in the big apple. Thanks Guys!

Alright, so lets talk about what we got for them.

C. Backman. I remember seeing this guy often as a St. Louis Blue
He is a big Swede defenseman. He puts the puck in front of the net, makes for some good scoring opportunities.

Thats his crib.

Fedor Tyutin. This guy is a solid defenseman. He also looks like a solid ass. I first saw him In the Ranger vs Pens series this last season, he was arguably their top defenseman. Solid Pickup.
I bet these guys aren’t too happy about getting shipped over here. But hey.
WELCOME TO COLUMBUS

ASK SCOTT HOWSON

Over at Puck-rakers you can send in some questions for the man Scott Howson.

“The Blue Jackets are expecting first-round draft pick Nikita Filatov to receive his working visa from the U.S. Consulate in Moscow within one to three weeks.” -Dispatch

Go to Consulate, go to it.
DO IT NIKITA

Some people think Boll’s actions is a bunch of Bollshit. Well. He is a hockey player. So, I think it’s a good thing hes playing hockey during the summer… It’s not like he’s “POPPING WHEELIES”.

Kellen you are still a beast.

Cool picture of the day.

According to Puck-rakers, Jared Boll arrived in Columbus today with a broken hand. He broke it playing no-contact hockey in Canada. Luckily it’s not a long-term injury. He should be ready to go by training camp.

Richard Matvichuk has been given an invite to training camp. He’s got some ties to Hitchcock which is presumably the a reason why he would get a shot here. Not much to this, he could show up in camp healthy and be an asset to an already strong defensive team, and provide a veteran leadership quality, that I believe this team lacks.

Thats his house. He’s got a Stanley Cup ring in there, but of course that was when Brett Hull was in the crease.

The Bleacher Report says the 08-09 Jackets are playoff bound.
They list these potential pickups in no particular order as possible signings for the Jackets.
- Aaron Ward D (BOS)
- Dennis Wideman D (BOS)
- James Wisniewski D (CHI)
- Jon Klemm D (LA)
- Sean Hill D (MIN)
- Sheldon Brookbank D (NJ)
- Marek Malik D (NYR)
- Paul Mara D (NYR)
- Andy Wozniewski D (TOR)
I’m surprised he thinks we really need another D man.

I misunderstood Bill yesterday. His idea really was OSU Hockey vs. Michigan Hockey, before a possible Winter Classic at Ohio Stadium.
That is a good idea, but I don’t think it would happen in the same day, with the NHL making this a tradition and all.

It would be one hell of a venue. But CBJ has to build some respect leaguewide, for this to happen. And I already know the people up north are crying about not getting this years classic.

The Jackets are waiting for Le Femme Nikita Filatov to Evgeni Malkin his way over here.

Radio color analyst Bill Davidge, thinks Columbus should get the next winter classic.. He’s got this great idea of a Wings vs. Jackets game after a OSU vs. MICHIGAN football game… Yeah. This dude obviously doesn’t realize anything, like how it takes almost a month to create a rink on a field outside… EDIT: Yeah, I don’t know why I just figured he was talking footballs. (Thx to Drew from endofbench.com) Ha. Sorry Bill. That isn’t to bad of an idea, but playing a winter classic at night, and playing two events on an outdoor rink would be tough. Also, I think they want to start a new tradition.
“
“Winter Classic II will be played at Wrigley Field on January 1st between the Hawks and the Wings. That is great for the rejuvenated Blackhawk organization…but….we need to do something as well, what do you think?
I have stated this for the last several years that it would be great to have a double header at Ohio Stadium with Michigan Wolverines coming in for a late afternoon tilt, and then the CBJ against the Wings that night. What a day that would be for the battle of Ohio and Michigan!!”
Yeah. not possible. But an outdoor game at Ohio Stadium would be awesome.

Raffi Torres has been in town and checked out. He has some knee issues. Good news is that he has been skating. If this guy is healthy he could be a goal scorer that will help very much on a team that has not proved itself offensively.

Training camp opens Sept. 12 for rookies and Sept. 19 for veterans.
